I thought of Baha'i faith for a while but gave up the idea after I read on their site that you donate 19% of your income (couldn't find it again lately, though). Had given enough to the WTS.

As a welcome gift, Sacrebleu, here is the Ronde des Jurons (circle dance of swearwords) by Georges Brassens, the modern day french troubadour (died about 25 years ago). You will find in it swearwords ending in Bleu, which was the edulcorated form of Dieu. Quebeckers still use some of them, plus the ones of their owns. Enjoy it.
Voici la ron-
de des jurons
Qui chantaient clair, qui dansaient rond
Quand les Gaulois
De bon aloi
Du franc-parler suivaient la loi
Jurant par-là
Jurant par-ci

In Scorcese's film, Joan Baez reports a conversation she'd had with Dylan, as he was writing some song words and, as she pointed out that they were not making sense, he replied something like "you're right but never mind, some people will see poetry in them." Could Dylan have been a scamer at some point in his career as he thought that about anything he could do would be revered ?

The happiest people on earth?
by nvrgnbk inmy fading brother just informed me of two jw suicides in his area within the last few weeks.. one was recently disfellowshipped.. the other was an active publisher, possibly a ministerial servant.
.
both left young children behind.. the cases appear to be unrelated.. of course suicide is nothing unique to jehovah's witnesses.. but most of us know that as a group they are no happier than any other segment of the population, quite possibly less so due to the burdens placed upon them and their paradisaic hopes that go perpetually unrealized.. .

if they are living up to all they are supposed to do and pleasing Jehovah then of course they are happy. If not...something is wrong with them.
That could be called the electric heater salesman syndrome
I once heard of a woman whom a salesman had convinced to shift from natural gas central heating to individual electric heaters. Because of the bricks which accumulate heat, he told her that her heating bill would sharply decrease. She started with a few appliances but, after a few months, she complained to the salesman that her bill was the same. His reply was conclusive : the cost was not down because she had changed only a few sets and to prove it, he suggested that she change all of them.

Last may, he performed in Paris and I took my wife along to see his show with some expectation as he had been a landmark in my teen age as with many who are now in their fifties. Very disappointing, to be honest. I had always viewed him as a folk singer and we found a noisy rock band. I hardly recognized like a rolling stone . He doesn't care in the least for the audience, no introductory words, no good bye. In my opinion he should draw to retirement, if he's still got a tiny bit of respect for his public left, but I understood from the No direction home film by Scorcese that he never had much of it.

the most interesting was the small shop that you can see on the picture next door to the assembly hall, where the girl sells leather covers for bibles and WT magazines, together with birthday cards...Mind, I don't mean she is a JW, just that she knows how to do business.

My essay on blood transfusions (Eng 101)
by inkling inthe following is an essay i wrote for my eng 101 class a few years ago.. this is an example of pre-doubt me.. although my theological motivations for writing this piece were clearly.
suspect, i stand by the medical information i found.. (sources) available upon request.. comments and criticism welcome.. .

Thank you Inkling, for this well documented, non dogmatic thread. Your view about transfusions seems to have evolved from religious refusal to scientific caution. My wife and I, de facto fading JWs as we are, while adhering to such scientific arguments, keep present this conviction that Jehovah gave us a good commandment here and a protection. You are obviously well informed on the subject, so I ask, do we have an idea of how many people, say in the US or in Europe, die owing to transfusion refusal, as compared to how many die because of transfusion ? I wouldn't be surprised that the ratio is in the order of 1 to 1000.
